The UK Government has set itself a clean power mission to decarbonise the country’s power system by 2030, overseen by the Mission Control for Clean Power.
Rapidly scaling and deploying clean energy projects and delivering the major infrastructure associated will require a surge in investment and overcoming a number of barriers at speed.
The UK Clean Power Taskforce will provide a forum for stakeholders from the UK and overseas to support Mission Control’s ambitions – and the UK’s revised NDC target of 81% emissions reduction – with a focus on knowledge transfer and the sharing of best practice to overcome the challenges and drive innovation and scale.
Taskforce Priority Areas
These will be defined in consultation with Mission Control, but are likely to include:
- De-risk supply chains – How can we collaborate to address shortages in manufacturing capability?
- Closing the skills gap – How can we best build capabilities and talent, and upskill the workforce?
- Streamlining permitting – How can we facilitate policy and regulatory support in the UK to accelerate permitting and approvals?
- Mobilising public and private finance – What proactive measures can we take to address limited financial resources?
