The UK Clean Power Taskforce is pleased to publish the findings of its first report, The Electric Economy: Creating Consensus, Communicating Change.
The report brings together a series of case studies demonstrating where electrification is already delivering tangible benefits – reducing costs, improving lives, and unlocking new economic opportunities. Spanning industry, housing and buildings, and transport, these real-world examples highlight what is working in practice today and what can be scaled further.
Co-chaired by former Energy Minister, The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore OBE, and former COP26 High Level Champion and Chair of the UK Committee on Climate Change, Nigel Topping CMG, the report argues that political parties must seize the opportunity to find common ground on the shared goal of delivering cheaper, more reliable power.
In informing the report, the Taskforce was delighted to hear evidence from some of the leading experts in UK energy, including Dan McGrail (CEO, GB Energy), Chris Stark (Head of Mission Control), Emma Pinchbeck (CEO, Climate Change Committee), and Nick Winser CBE (Energy Commissioner at the National Infrastructure Commission).
Underpinned by newly commissioned Ipsos MORI data for King’s College London, the findings emphasise that clear, consistent and better-attuned communication about the benefits of the energy transition is critical. Framing the transition in terms of economic resilience, energy security, and long-term public prosperity will be essential to maintaining public confidence and building durable consensus at a pivotal moment for the UK’s energy future.
